Eco Friendly Print

Marstan Press are committed to delivering eco friendly print products throughout our print production process. We believe that you shouldn't compromise on quality or price when you choose an environmentally friendly printer.
When sourcing your commercial printing you should take into account the following considerations:
Design for efficient printing
- Standard paper sizes create the least wasted paper. Although a bespoke size may sometimes look better, its production may waste a large part of a standard SRA2 or B2 paper sheet. If you have a large print run, work with your printer to work out the best size for your project, and allow sufficient time for the paper to be made to measure.
Types of Paper
- Always chose an FSC Certified Paper along with an FSC Certified Printer. Through the FSC's Chain of Custody Certification, you are guaranteed that the paper came from a sustainably managed forest. You also get to use the FSC Logo on your print work, which shows your customers that you are supporting sustainable forest management.
Choosing an Eco Friendly Printer
Ask your printer about their print production techniques, for example:
- Do they use zero or low alcohol on their printing presses to reduce emissions?
- Are their litho printing press plates made using a 100% chemical free system?
- Do they use vegetable based inks (or similar) instead of more harmful oil based inks?
Do they have ink reduction technology, which reduces the amount of ink used on each job, while still maintaining colour accuracy?
- Ask your supplier about any environmental accreditations they have. You should look out for FSC Certification, ISO 14001 Accreditation (or similar EMAS) or SEE Companies Accreditation.
See what else your print company are doing for the environment, for example:
- Do they stream all their waste, so it can be recycled effectively?
- Do your current print company use hybrid and dual fuel vehicles for better fuel consumption and lower emissions?
- Do they support any local or national environmental organisations?
Print Finishing & Alternative Materials
- Instead of using tradional lamination, you could consider a bio-degradable lamination option. Another alternative to lamination is an overall UV Varnish, which gives a similar look to lamination and is fully bio-degradable, and costs similar to traditional lamination.
