Marstan installs Image Control Colour Management System

7th November, 2008

The Marstan Press has just installed Heidelberg’s Image Control Colour Management System. We join only a small percentage of printers who have this sophisticated system, cementing our reputation as a high quality printer. This investment shows our continued commitment to our customers and we are confident that this, along with our focus on reducing our environmental impact will help set Marstan part from the competition.

To achieve colour accuracy, our presses have been optimised to the ISO 12647-2 Standard, which is the same standard that our GMG Colour Accurate Proofing System is set to.

Printing

The separation data sent to the press automatically sets the ink ducts to 98% accuracy, with the press minder only having to make minor final adjustments, using the straightforward and convenient colour touch-screen display.

Running Sheets are then placed on a flat bed scanner, which Spectrophotometrically measures 160,000 pixels to check the colour densities. When the press minder is happy with all the readings, a PASS sheet is memorised by the system.

All subsequent running sheets are then compared to this and the system simultaneously regulates all the printing units during the run to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Measurement
image control, colour management, colour accuracy, ISO 12647-2, measurement, colour measurementThe system provides a vast array of feedback on how the press is performing and gives additional information to that obtained from colour bars alone. This allows us to stabilise the resulting image during the natural fluctuations of the printing process.

Other Features
Image Control is able to memorise special corporate colours, as well as entire jobs. This allows for colour accurate duplication of jobs throughout the year.

Reports can also be generated for each job, showing the density readings for each colour on each running sheet.
